Spo2 Sensor Working Definition
SpO2 (peripheral oxygen saturation) sensor is a non-invasive device used to measure the oxygen saturation level in a person’s blood. It works by shining light of two different wavelengths (usually red and infrared) through the skin, typically on a fingertip or earlobe, and measuring the absorption of light by hemoglobin molecules in the blood.
The work definition or purpose of an ECG cable can be summarized as follows:
- The sensor contains LEDs and a photodetector. It calculates the ratio of oxyhemoglobin to deoxyhemoglobin from light absorption.
- This ratio determines the SpO2 percentage. Normal is 95-100%.
- Lower readings indicate potential respiratory or circulatory issues.
